Muzzy Chair in Entrepreneurship

Eller/McGuire announces the Jim and Pamela Muzzy Chair in Entrepreneurship. Seeking qualified candidates from business, economics, and law to lead aggressive research agenda.

The Eller College of Management invites qualified candidates for the Muzzy Chair in Entrepreneurship at the University of Arizona. The successful candidate will serve as the Executive Director of the highly ranked McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship, as a tenured faculty member in one of the College’s seven departments, and will be a leader in the Eller College’s entrepreneurship research agenda. The McGuire Center houses one of the oldest and most prominent entrepreneurship programs in the country. In addition to numerous past rankings, the center was named #1 among public schools (#2 overall) in April 2004 and 2005 by Entrepreneur magazine, the only measure of its kind in ranking entrepreneurship exclusively independently of other school disciplines, areas of focus, or reputation factors. The Eller College’s undergraduate program in entrepreneurship was ranked #8 overall by U.S. News & World Report last fall, and #4 among public programs.

Position Summary

The Eller College of Management seeks to build on this strength in entrepreneurship by developing a leading research program that complements its entrepreneurship instructional programs. The goals of this research program will include enhancing knowledge and understanding of issues ranging from entrepreneurial philosophy to application. Research areas of particular interest include: advancement of innovation through entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer; angel and venture capital financing; small business lending; family-run firms; alliances and joint ventures; entrepreneurial law; intellectual property; entrepreneurial leadership and strategy; and individual and team issues in entrepreneurship and innovation management..

The holder of the Muzzy chair will join a leadership group dedicated to enhancing the College’s capabilities and reputation in:

  • Performing research that addresses entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology management.
  • Enhancing and developing new experiential curriculum options in entrepreneurship.
  • Fostering partnerships that link the expertise of the Eller College with leading programs, such as those in agriculture and life sciences, engineering, medicine, optics, pharmacy and science.
  • Enhancing collaboration with industry.
  • Building on relationships with comparably well-regarded programs in the U.S. and abroad.

Candidates should have a strong research background in an area of business, economics, or law. They should have experience in building academic programs and a willingness to work with industry to transfer academic knowledge. The successful candidate will be a team builder who can successfully facilitate collaboration across disciplines such as science, engineering, MIS, management, economics and humanities. Individuals with demonstrated competence in MBA/Executive Education would be preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a strong research record that would qualify them for an appointment as a tenured full professor. They must have demonstrated commitment to preparing students for success in an increasingly competitive business environment.
